About Diagnosis Murder
Dr. Mark Sloan is a doctor at Community General Hospital and he is a consultant for the police department. His son Steve Sloan is a detective for the department. He and his father along with emergency room resident Dr. Jesse Travis and Dr. Amanda Bentley who is the pathologist at the hospital help to solve some very strange murder cases in Diagnosis Murder. Every week Dr. Sloan stumbles across murders either acting in his role at the hospital aiding the police as a medical consultant or just plain dumb luck.
Dr. Sloan is assisted by several others over the years: Dr. Jack Stewart a prodigy of Dr. Sloan's who raised him from the mean streets to become a doctor. Amanda Bentley the hospital's chief pathologist. Jesse Travis an intern in ER medicine. Steve Sloan Mark's son a homicide detective who more often than not has to deter his father from interfering.
Dick Van Dyke first played the role of Dr Mark Sloan as a guest in the William Conrad series Jake and the Fatman. CBS made three TV movies based on the character before going into series.
