About Frasier
What started as a spin-off from the award-winning Cheers has itself become a phenomenon. The stories of Frasier and his dysfunctional family and friends have kept audiences around the world laughing for 11 series. When Frasier finished in 2004 it outstripped the success of it’s parent show – Cheers! Frasier first went to air on 16 September 1993 and screened it's final episode 13 May 2004. Frasier had 264 episodes over 11 seasons and was released by Paramount.
Neurotic psychiatrist Dr Frasier Crane has moved from his Boston barstool into a more comfortable position, a couch. Having left Boston, his nagging ex-wife and his practice behind, Frasier has started afresh in his home town of Seattle. He now has a spot as a popular radio Psychiatrist, giving him the chance to spread words of wit and wisdom to the masses.
This upscale comedy provides a dose of the neuroses and tribulations suffered by an insecure and pompous psychiatrist, Dr. Frasier Crane, host of a Seattle radio advice show. The twice-divorced doctor's peaceful home life of fine cigars and haute cuisine was shattered when his gruff, ex-cop father, Martin (Emmy nominee John Mahoney), was injured in the line of duty and is forced to move in with Frasier.
Martin brought with him a semi-psychic, live-in home-care provider, Daphne Moon (Emmy nominee Jane Leeves); his pesky Jack Russell terrier, Eddie (Moose); and a duct-taped recliner that clashes with Frasier's more aesthetically pleasing Eames and Wassily chairs. Their home is frequently visited by Frasier's snobbish and competitive brother, Niles (Pierce), a fellow psychiatrist whose romantic interests lie with Daphne. At work, his slightly jaded producer, single parent Roz Doyle (Peri Gilpin), supports Frasier.
Grammer, when asked what makes these characters so believable and endearing replied, "They are a group of people thrown together, who despite their differences possess the same innate genuine qualities - they are vulnerable, moral, honest and ready to forgive."
Frasier made television history by being the first television series to win five Emmy Awards for Outstanding Comedy!
