Keeping tabs on crime…
Seven years after Miami Vice left the air hunky Don Johnson returned to television playing a cop who was a more maure and likable version of his Sonny Crockett character from the former series. Wisecracking Nash Bridges was head of the elite Special Investigations Unit of the San Francisco police Department. He was laid-back self-effacing and friendly (he called everybody 'Bubba') likely to try to talk his way out of tight situations before resorting to violence. When the series premiered he reported to Lt. Shimamura a by-the-book superior who was confounded by Nash's methods and amazed by his success rate. Others on the team were Harvey the technology specialist who hadn't completely outgrown his counterculture youth in the 1960s; Evan the ambitious young womaniser who idolised Nash; Rick Nash's rival whose incompetence got him fired; and Bryn a sexy but tough cop who didn't take crap from anyone. Nash's former parner Joe had retired from the force to become a private detective but seemed to get involved in most of Nash's cases. By the start of the second season he was back on the force and an official member of the team but he still had a penchant for working on get-rich-quick schemes in his spare time - often getting both himself and Nash into embarrassing situations.
