The Bionic Woman
About The Bionic Woman
A spinoff from The Six Million Dollar Man, The Bionic Woman stars Lindsay Wagner as Jaime Sommers. Jaime, a tennis pro, suffered a critical injury in a freak parachuting accident. At the insistence of Steve Austin (The Six Million Dollar Man), Jaime’s life is saved by emergency bionic surgery. Consequently, Jaime was outfitted with bionic legs for speed, a bionic right arm for strength, and a bionic right ear for supersensitive hearing. Thus Jaime undertakes an exciting double life – one as an O.S.I. operative taking on special high-risk government missions, and another as a humble school-teacher at the Ventura Air Force Base school in California.
Wagner returned in several made-for-TV movies including: “The Return of the Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman, with Lee Majors and Richard Anderson” (1987), “Bionic Showdown: The Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman” (1989), and “Bionic Ever After?” (1994).
The Bionic Woman was groundbreaking and showcased television’s first forays into feminine sci fi. The Bionic Woman, was all woman, human and vulnerable – a fact which brought poignant sensitivity to her hard-hitting, action-hero persona.
