Man on a Ledge

We all knew what ‘Cowboys and Aliens’ and ‘Snakes on a Plane’ were going to be about which is why it is no surprise that the latest plot-summed-up-in-a-title film, “Man on a Ledge” gets straight to the point. That’s right – Sam ‘Avatar’ Worthington checks himself into a fine hotel in the middle of Manhattan, pops up to his room with a view and climbs out the window.

What plays out is a pretty entertaining little heist film served with an assortment of cheese. The chemistry between our Aussie mate Sam Worthington, an ex-cop who was framed for stealing a diamond, and his negotiator Elizabeth Banks is completely entertaining. Unnecessary backstory, predictable plot and cheesy one-liners by Jamie Bell and his girlfriend, Genesis Rodriguez, I found completely forgivable. One: because they are both so sexy, and two: because I felt like the filmmakers were aware they were being cheesy. Even though there was nothing ground-breaking to add to this genre of film, I still found myself gasping at twists and holding my breath every time Sam’s toe got a little too close to the edge.

The film doesn’t take itself too seriously and if you don’t either I guarantee you’ll have some fun with this one. It’s the perfect date film: interesting, entertaining, but you can have a kiss and still know what’s going on.
