Fran Drescher stars as Fran Fine, a street-smart young woman, with a face out of Vogue and a voice out of Queens. Fran, fresh out of her job as a bridal consultant in her boyfriend's shop is working as a door-to-door cosmetics saleswoman when she stumbles onto the opportunity to become nanny to the children of a wealthy Broadway producer, Maxwell Sheffield (Charles Shaughnessy). Once Fran realises Mr Sheffield is not only wealthy but also a widower, she eagerly takes the job. But she’ll need the help of butler Niles to snare Mr Sheffield whose socialite business partner C.C. Babcock has her eyes on Maxwell for herself!
